Bowie Public Library |
Our Bowie Public Library provides substantial educational opportunities for everyone and is located in the Faye Ruth Shaw Memorial Building. The library's 30,000-plus volume collection includes reference materials, periodicals, fiction, and a vast children's section. The Bowie School system endeavors to provide its nearly 2,000 students with the best most progressive education available. There are four campuses, with the latest in educational technology available to the students, whether it is computer-assisted drafting or computer diagnostics in vocational programs. Strong athletics and a variety of extra-curricular activities compliment a well-rounded academic program guided by experienced teachers and administrators. Bowie is recognized for high scores during statewide testing. North Central Texas College- Bowie Campus serves the local community. It provides a wide range of educational opportunities, including a nursing and biological laboratory, and a computer lab that is open to the public for no charge. |

Amon G. Carter Lake |
Some 709 miles of shoreline make Amon G. Carter Lake a fisherman's paradise. Bass are the top species of fish caught at the lake, with a recent record catch weighing 14.7 pounds. Amon Carter ranks in the top ten for large mouth bass population in North Texas. The lake is also known for producing great bream, catfish, and crappie. Amon G. Carter lake is also prime for skiing, pleasure boating and swimming. There are ample campground facilities at Selma park, Big Sandy Camp, and Hudspeth Beach. It is the perfect place to spend the afternoon or the weekend. The 18-hole golf course at Top-O-The-Lake Country Club is located at Lake Amon G. Carter with residential developments surrounding the waters. |
