"Deep in the Heart of Texas" Ranch Rodeo

Ranch Rodeo Sept 24-25, 2011

Bowie — Ranch rodeos in Texas date back to before statehood. For over a century, ranch rodeos have been a way to focus on the work routines cowboys actually experience.

Passing along the history of a working cowboy’s everyday duties was one reason the Montague County Child Welfare Board initiated its ranch rodeo in 2004. Organizers felt it was important to maintain the tradition of actual cowboy life with events such as riding, roping, branding, and the like, for a good cause, helping the abused and neglected children of Montague County.

Although this is not a sanctioned ranch rodeo, on Saturday at 6:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm, the ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas’ Ranch Rodeo will bring together dozens of teams (of four) from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Kansas, to compete during the first ever Western Heritage Roundup in Bowie at Pelham Park. There will also be Chuck Wagons cooking, western vendors, Cowboy Christian Symposium and Kids Pedal Tractor Pulls, roping everyone in, for this fun, family event. Note: All events will be on Saturday with only the ranch rodeo on Sunday.
